Easter in Mid-Century Walnut Creek
Back in ‘the good old days’ Easter was a big event in Walnut Creek. Back then we used to call Spring Break ‘Easter Vacation’ and it actually coincided with Easter, always held during the week before Easter Sunday. There was a prominent hill called Mt. Pisgah, near the current location of Safeway, before it was leveled to make room for apartments. Mt. Pisgah could be seen from locations all around Walnut Creek and an Easter Sunrise Service was held on the summit each year followed by Easter Egg Hunts around town.
